Kids Summer Camps

Over the past few years, I’ve had the opportunity to serve at several children’s summer camps through my church community. Every summer has been different, but each one has reminded me why I love working with kids.

Spending an entire week with the same group of children gave me the chance to build real relationships with them. Whether we were playing games, doing crafts, singing songs, or simply talking, I loved getting to know each child’s unique personality. I also had the privilege of encouraging them as they learned more about their faith and discovered that church could be a place filled with joy, friendship, and belonging.

One camp that has been especially meaningful to me is Ignite Sports & Arts, where children explore different sports, creative activities, and Bible lessons throughout the week. I’ve always served in the arts department, helping lead creative projects and activities. There’s something incredibly rewarding about watching a child light up with excitement after creating something they’re proud of or simply having the confidence to try something new.

One of the biggest lessons these camps have taught me is that children are incredibly open to connection—we just have to be willing to meet them where they are. Sometimes that means getting messy with paint, sitting on the floor to listen to a story, or joining them in a game instead of watching from the sidelines. Those small moments often become the ones they remember most.

Every summer leaves me with new memories, new friendships, and an even greater appreciation for the impact adults can have in a child’s life. These experiences continue to shape my desire to work with children and remind me that kindness, patience, and simply being present can make a lasting difference.
